What Is a Side-Eject Lever Action — And Why It Matters
It’s the single feature that decides whether a lever gun is built for modern optics — or fighting them.
On a traditional top-eject lever action, the spent cartridge case is thrown straight up out of the top of the receiver. It’s the classic design and it works — but the ejection path sits exactly where you’d want to mount a scope. That’s why top-eject lever guns generally need an offset or forward “scout”-style mount to keep the optic clear of flying brass.
A side-eject lever action like the HugTek SBSE solves that problem at the source. The fired case is kicked out the side of the receiver, well clear of the line of sight, leaving the top of the action solid. That means you can mount a riflescope, red dot or low-power variable optic low and directly over the bore — exactly where it belongs for a natural cheek weld, fast target acquisition and repeatable accuracy.
For Australian hunters, that’s a genuine advantage.
