The HugTek SBSE is the purest expression of HugTek’s side-eject lever action tradition — a rifle that takes the timeless lever-gun profile and refines it with modern engineering, a deep black chrome finish, and an action that runs glass-smooth straight from the box.
Where many lever actions force a compromise between classic looks and modern practicality, the SBSE refuses to. Its side-eject receiver throws spent brass clear of the sighting plane, leaving the top of the action solid and ready for a scope, red dot or thermal optic mounted low and central over the bore. Paired with an adjustable buckhorn rear sight and a hooded fibre-optic front sight, it’s a rifle you can run iron-sighted or optic-equipped with no compromise either way.
Built around a black steel receiver and a finely figured Turkish walnut stock, the SBSE delivers the heft, balance and hand-feel that lever-gun shooters chase — with the durability to back it up in the Australian bush. Gun Bar offers the SBSE in three proven calibres, so you can match the rifle to your country, your quarry and the way you like to hunt.
Whether you’re chasing pigs through scrub, walking up goats and deer, knocking over foxes on the property, or running a lever gun on the range, the HugTek SBSE is built to be the rifle you reach for first. It’s the flagship of the HugTek side-eject range — and it’s available right now, brand new, from Gun Bar.
It’s the single feature that decides whether a lever gun is built for modern optics — or fighting them.
On a traditional top-eject lever action, the spent cartridge case is thrown straight up out of the top of the receiver. It’s the classic design and it works — but the ejection path sits exactly where you’d want to mount a scope. That’s why top-eject lever guns generally need an offset or forward “scout”-style mount to keep the optic clear of flying brass.
A side-eject lever action like the HugTek SBSE solves that problem at the source. The fired case is kicked out the side of the receiver, well clear of the line of sight, leaving the top of the action solid. That means you can mount a riflescope, red dot or low-power variable optic low and directly over the bore — exactly where it belongs for a natural cheek weld, fast target acquisition and repeatable accuracy.
For Australian hunters, that’s a genuine advantage. Red dots, compact LPVOs and thermal and digital optics have become standard kit for pigs, foxes and night work — and the SBSE is ready for all of them, while still handling beautifully on its iron sights. You get the romance, the balance and the lightning follow-up shots of a classic lever gun, with none of the optic-mounting headaches.
The HugTek SBSE gives you a solid-top receiver you can mount a modern optic on — without giving up a single thing that makes a lever gun a lever gun.
Every SBSE shares the same hard-working core — whichever calibre you choose, you get the full feature set.
Spent brass exits the side, not the top — leaving a solid receiver ready for a scope, red dot or thermal mounted low over the bore.
A slick, consistent lever throw straight from the box — fast, positive cycling for confident follow-up shots in the field.
An adjustable buckhorn rear paired with a bright, hooded fibre-optic front — fast to acquire and protected against knocks.
Factory-threaded and capped, ready for a sound moderator or muzzle device where your licence and state permit.
Lever safety plus a traditional half-cock safety — confident, predictable carry whether you’re in the scrub or the gun rack.
A finely sculpted Turkish walnut stock over a deep, glare-free black chrome matte finish — classic looks, hard-wearing protection.
One side-eject platform, three proven chamberings. Select your calibre from the options above to add to cart.
A lever gun earns its keep where rifles get used hard. Here’s where the SBSE shines.
In thick cover, a short, fast-pointing carbine beats a long-barrelled rifle every time. The .357 and .44 Magnum SBSE swing fast onto a bolting pig and cycle quick for that all-important second shot.
The 30-30 Winchester has taken Australian deer and goats for generations. With its longer 18.5″ barrel and a low-mounted optic, the SBSE turns that heritage calibre into a genuinely capable walk-and-stalk rifle.
Foxes, feral dogs and vermin on the block call for a handy, reliable rifle that’s always ready. The threaded muzzle takes a moderator where permitted, and the side-eject receiver runs a thermal or red dot for night work.
The SBSE is one of eight HugTek lever actions in the Gun Bar range. All eight share the same engineering core — a 5/8×24 threaded muzzle, dual safeties and a hooded fibre-optic front sight — but each has its own character, finish and eject system. Here’s the range at a glance.
